Another reason to prevent SARA

Subacute rumen acidosis (SARA) is an important metabolic disease of dairy cows. The PreLive platform uses pH measurement marbles for early recognition, allowing for quick and effective treatment. But it turns out that preventing SARA can also lead to the prevention of another important disease, mastitis.

Recent research by Hu and colleagues [1] showed that lipopolysaccharides (LPS) from the gastrointestinal tract of bovine SARA patients accumulate in the breast after being transported there via the bloodstream. In the udder, LPS causes inflammation, which has a negative impact on the health and productivity of the animals. Thus, prevention of SARA becomes even more important, and the PreLive project platform comes to meet the need for rapid and reliable identification of SARA.
